After working as, among other things, a gold prospector, he wound up in Hollywood and began picking up jobs as an extra in comedies, w he met comedian Harold Lloyd. He began producing, directing and writing a series of short film comedies starring Lloyd around 1915. These were quite successful, and Roach started his own production company and eventually bought his own studio. By the early 1920s he had eclipsed Mack Sennett as the King of Comedy and created many of the most memorable comic series of all time, even by today's standards. These include the team of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, Charley Chase and The Little Rascals. By the late 1930s Roach's formula for success was jeopardized by audience demands for bigger, feature-length productions, and he was forced to try his hand at making full-length screwball comedies, musicals and dramas, although he still kept turning out two-reel comedies. By the 1950s he was producing mainly for television. In 1983 his company developed the first successful digital colorization process. Roach then became a producer for many TV series on the Disney Channel, and his company still produces most of their films and videos. MORE INFO ON CLAUDIA DELL: Claudia Dell was born Claudia Dell Smith on January 10, 1910 in San Antonio, Texas. She went to school t and also in Mexico City, Mexico. She was a showgirl, appearing in 3 Broadway productions, including the Ziegfield Follies of 1927. She was an understudy to Irene Delroy. She was said to be visiting her parents in Hollywood when she made her screen debut . Legend has it that Harry Cohn was so taken by her beauty that the Columbia Pictures' logo was designed in her image. She married Edwin Silton, an agent, in 1934. She was later a receptionist in a beauty salon. MORE INFO ON BILLY GILBERT: The son of singers in the Metropolitan Opera, Billy Gilbert began performing in vaudeville at age 12. He developed a drawn-out, explosive sneezing routine that became his trademark (he was the model for, and voice of, Sneezy in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)). Gilbert's exquisite comic timing made him the perfect foil for such comedians as Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy , and he was especially memorable as the dim-witted process server Pettibone in His Girl Friday (1940). MORE INFO ON EDDIE FOY, JR. : With the passing of Irving Foy in 2003, another era in American show business comes to a close. Eddie Foy & the Seven Little Foys appeared in screen together only once, in 1915 in A Favorite Fool (1915), while Eddie Sr., without his progeny, appeared on screen in Actors' Fund Field Day (1910) and Yankee Doodle in Berlin (1919).In the screen biography The Seven Little Foys (1955), Eddie Foy was portrayed by Bob Hope , while Billy Gray (of "Father Knows Best" (1954) fame) portrayed Bryan Foy (1896-1977), Lee Erickson portrayed Charley Foy (1898-1984), Paul De Rolf portrayed Richard Foy (????-1947), Lydia Reed portrayed Mary Foy (1901-1987), Linda Bennett portrayed Madeline Foy (1903-1988), Jimmy Baird portrayed Eddie Foy Jr. , (1905-1983) & Tommy Duran portrayed Irving Foy (1908-2003).Bryan became a successful producer at Warner Brothers, the same studio that employed Charley (who narrated The Seven Little Foys (1955) ). as an actor. Mary also appeared in a number of films during the 20s and 30s but it is Eddie Jr. who is best remembered for his screen appearances. But now, the Seven Little Foys only live on in memories. It is part of our in-store inventory from our shop which is located in the heart of Hollywood where we have been in business for the past40 years!
